What Are Progressive Lenses?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

When the lens of the eye is no longer able to adapt to different distances due to age, the different ranges covered by the spectacle lens take over this task. Progressive lenses offer a maximum of aesthetics and function. Roughly speaking, the lenses are divided into three areas. The upper part of the lens is optimised for seeing at a distance, the lower part of the lens for all near areas; and between these areas there is a gradual increase in support for the eye, so that the right effect is provided for every distance. The natural movement of the eye is given optimal support, as when we look at things close to us, we automatically lower our gaze and slightly bring the eyes together. The progressive lens should be regarded as an all-rounder among spectacle lenses \u2013 as an all-day solution without having to change glasses for different requirements. However, some vision requirements are so specific, such as working all day on a computer screen, that other lens types are recommended for this special requirement.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Presbyopia<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Presbyopia is not defective vision, but rather a typical eyesight problem that occurs with age. The reason for age-related problems is the lens of the eye, which loses its elasticity with increasing age. If there is no other defect in eyesight, only near vision is affected. When we are young, the eye can do anything and contraction of the lens allows almost unlimited adaptation, meaning that we can see things clearly even when they are very close to the eye.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The aging process of the eye begins very early in life. But since we usually don\u2019t need to see things that are only 5cm in front of us in focus, the effect only becomes noticeable quite late (usually between the ages of 40 and 45), when a normal reading distance of 30 to 40cm is no longer in clear focus. Unfortunately, short-sighted people usually notice the effect very late, since the eye can naturally see things close to us better without glasses. We often simply take our glasses off as a substitute for reading glasses. However, this only solves the problem to a very limited extent, as even reading glasses are anything but a complete solution.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In addition, getting used to progressive lenses is much easier the earlier you start, as the differences in effect between things that are distant and near by are much smaller. In short: a typical case of a \u201cfalse economy\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
